Construction has begun at Kahului Small Boat Harbor in Maui for a new bathroom and wastewater system, including a prefabricated unit with water and electrical utilities, sidewalks, and an individual wastewater system. Valley Isle Pumping, Inc. is handling the $1,398,315 project, which is expected to be completed by June 12, according to the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Boaters and visitors may experience minor disruptions, such as slowed traffic and reduced trailer parking. The contractor will coordinate with harbor users and the DLNR’s Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation to minimize these impacts, as reported by the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Officials announced upgrades at Kahului Harbor to improve facilities for fishermen, sailors, and other boaters. "No detrimental effects are anticipated at the Kahului Ramp and surrounding areas," the release stated. The upgrades are expected to support harbor use and protect water quality, as stated by the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources.
