Tragedy struck at the Northrop Grumman facility in Linthicum yesterday afternoon, as a contracted security worker took the life of a colleague following an argument. Anne Arundel County Police were called to the scene at approximately 3:35 p.m., arriving to respond to a situation that had quickly escalated into violence. As reported by WMAR-2 News, two adult male security workers were involved in a dispute that resulted in one worker fatally shooting the other.
After the shooting, a third security worker was able to intervene and detain the shooter, effectively preventing any further harm until police arrived. This intervention was crucial in the moments that followed the incident. Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson Justin Mulcahy stressed that this was "an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public at this time," according to a statement obtained by WMAR-2 News. The suspect is now in custody with charges pending.
During a press briefing, Mulcahy further confirmed that none of the individuals involved were employees of Northrop Grumman but were instead contracted security personnel. The name of the security firm has not been disclosed, nor have the names of the individuals involved, as authorities work to notify the next of kin. The shooting occurred off Aviation Boulevard near Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, as stated by Fox Baltimore.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, while police continue to piece together the events that led up to the altercation.
