In an extensive investigation that highlights the ongoing threat of child sexual exploitation, Geoffrey Lee Dudding, a 40-year-old convicted sex offender from Concord, North Carolina, has been sentenced to a lengthy 50 years in federal prison. This sentence was handed down after Dudding attempted to lure an 11-year-old child into sexual activity, using various online platforms and his cellphone for solicitation. According to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Middle District of Florida, Dudding also received a lifetime term of supervised release following his guilty plea on October 28, 2025.

Official court documents reveal the grim details of Dudding's offenses. While engaged in undercover operations, an FBI agent posed as the parent of a supposed 11-year-old child on a social messaging platform. It was there that Dudding, using the handle "metalh34d321," reached out with the explicit proposition to engage in sexual acts with the "child." Despite his awareness of the "child" being only 11 years old, Dudding's messages were direct and unmistakable. He communicated his intent to book a hotel room in Jacksonville, for what he described as a "good time and sex." This disturbing communication between Dudding and the undercover agent was part of evidence that led to the heavy sentence imposed by United States District Judge Wendy W. Berger.

The rigorous investigation was a cooperative effort among the Federal Bureau of Investigation, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown, who argued for justice on behalf of the child who was the intended victim of these exploitative actions.
