After more than a week on the run, 21-year-old Amir Johnson was arrested by Conyers police in connection with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Kaleb King. FOX 5 Atlanta reports that law enforcement had been searching for Johnson since the January 13 incident on Forest Villa Drive off Irwin Bridge Road NW.
Police had previously offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to Johnson’s arrest. He has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault and is being held at the Rockdale County Jail. Details about the circumstances of his apprehension and whether the reward was claimed have not been released. The investigation into the motive behind Kaleb King’s death is ongoing.
A witness described Amir Johnson’s presence at the gathering where the shooting occurred. Marlicia Maddox, whose daughter’s home was affected, told Atlanta News First that her daughter called her in a panic, reporting that someone had been shot. Maddox arrived to find the home damaged, with bullet holes in the walls and blood on the floors.
Kaleb King, described by friends and neighbors as a quiet and kind young man, was killed during the shooting. Marlicia Maddox referred to him as a respectable young man. The incident occurred during a gathering that turned violent, resulting in his death.
