Coon Rapids is on the hunt for local environmental heroes. As Earth Month draws near, the city's Sustainability Commission is calling for nominations for its annual Sustainability Awards. These accolades aim to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have taken significant strides in promoting sustainability within the community. Anyone who knows of a potential nominee who is making a positive environmental impact can send their suggestions to the Commission, as reported by the City of Coon Rapids.
To nominate, concerned citizens should email [email protected] by February 28, and include a brief account of the nominee's eco-friendly achievements. The official announcement from the City of Coon Rapids, MN - Local Government page teases a presentation ceremony to be held during a City Council meeting in April, coinciding neatly with Earth Month celebrations.
Previous honorees have set high benchmarks for the type of initiatives that gain recognition. Past award recipients include a resident who made renewable energy personal by installing solar panels on their home. Mary T. Inc. was honored for igniting community spirit with an annual Earth Day trash pick-up event. Not to be overlooked, Anoka-Ramsey Community College was celebrated for its commitment to biodiversity through the creation of a new bee lawn and prairie garden.
