Commuters in and around D.C. and Prince George’s County should expect significant traffic disruptions tomorrow due to the funeral services of Officer Terry Bennett. The Metropolitan Police Department has released an advisory for rolling road closures that will occur during the funeral procession, scheduled from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly and monitor real-time traffic updates.
The procession will cause temporary closures on major roadways, such as the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway I-495/I-95, between Medical Center Drive and Forestville Road, and Forestville Road from the Capital Beltway to the Suitland Parkway. Other affected routes include inbound Suitland Parkway to the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, portions of South Capitol Street, M Street, SW, and Delaware Avenue, SW, amongst others. These closures are expected to have an impact not just on vehicular traffic, but also pedestrian movement within the affected areas. The MPD has cautioned local residents and visitors to be aware of the increased activity and to proceed with caution. They expressed gratitude towards the assisting agencies, which include the Prince George’s County Police Department, Maryland State Police, and United States Park Police for their support in honoring Officer Bennett.
