Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group is set to make its Detroit debut with a new venue that recalls the city's historic dining past. The new addition, Pine Hall, will be located on the 12th floor of the Hudson’s Detroit building, a Bedrock development project. As reported by The Detroit News, the space is designed to pay tribute to the Pine Room, a once-popular wood-paneled restaurant at the J.L. Hudson Department Store. Meyer aims to create a "neighborhood bar worthy of becoming a destination,” a place that "brings people together and fits whatever the moment calls for."
The restaurant will host 300 seats and offer an impressive outdoor deck spanning 3,300 square feet. Patrons can expect a classic tavern menu, with strong cocktails and regional beers. The WXYZ report highlighted forthcoming beverages such as "The Final Countdown," a twist on Detroit's own "The Last Word," and the "Pine Hall Sour", showcasing Michigan spirits and local ingredients. Meyer's venue is expected to add a note of historical resonance to Bedrock's larger mixed-use project.
While Pine Hall's opening is planned for this spring, the broader Hudson's Detroit development encompasses much more, including an event venue, public plaza, and the upcoming Detroit EDITION hotel and residences set to open in 2027. According to MLive, Hudson's Detroit promises to be a 1.5 million square foot hub of commerce, leisure, and living space—bringing new energy to Woodward Ave.
