
In the early hours of Saturday morning, a 37-year-old man was found stabbed on the platform at the Clark/Lake CTA station in the Loop, turning a quiet downtown stop into an active crime scene. Officers discovered him a little before 2:30 a.m. on the 100 block of Lake Street with puncture wounds to his chest and abdomen. He was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No one was in custody as of early Saturday, and area detectives have opened an investigation.
Police response and investigation
Chicago police told FOX 32 Chicago that officers responded to the Clark/Lake station just before 2:30 a.m. and found an unresponsive 37-year-old on the platform. According to the department, the victim had puncture wounds to his chest and abdomen and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died. Area detectives are handling the probe, and no arrests have been reported.
CTA alerts and service impact
The CTA issued alerts early Saturday saying Blue Line trains were delayed because of police activity near Clark and Lake at about 3:25 a.m., and that normal service and boarding resumed around 5:48 a.m., per ABC7 Chicago. Messages noted that while police were on scene, trains were operating on the same track between Grand Avenue and LaSalle.
Transit safety in the Loop
The fatality is the latest violent episode around Chicago's Loop transit hubs. Coverage of recent incidents has included a December stabbing on the Blue Line, and national outlets documented a November attack in which a passenger was set on fire aboard a Blue Line train near Clark and Lake. People reported the November incident as investigators pursued a person of interest.
