Visitors bundled up against the cold, but their spirits were undeterred, they got to witness the impressive talons and sharp beaks of the three-year-old red-tailed hawks named Nyx and Zena, Nyx guided by handler Stacy Emert, and Zena by Brandon Hunter. Handlers shared details on falconry from their diets to the day-to-day of caring for such captivating creatures, adding a rich context to the visual experience of seeing these predators up close.
The interaction with Nyx and Zena wasn't just for spectacle, the handlers took the opportunity to educate attendees on the nature of falconry and the responsibilities that come with housing these sizeable raptors.
