
A Delmont police officer and his K9 companion are recuperating after their vehicle was rear-ended in Murrysville on Sunday evening. Officer Dylan Keffer and K9 Dirk, while already on duty attending a crash along Route 22, were dispatched to a second incident. Attempting to respond, Keffer switched on his emergency lights, but a following driver collided with them from behind, reported WPXI.
Following the collision, both Officer Keffer and K9 Dirk were promptly taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. According to statements from Delmont Police Chief T.J. Klobucar, the pair was subsequently released and is now at home recuperating. “I am so thankful for the outpouring of support from the community, in addition to the care and consideration we’ve received in regard to Officer Keffer and K-9 Dirk’s health and well-being," Klobucar expressed his gratitude. According to WTAE, he also conveyed that the department eagerly awaits their service return, relieved by the relatively minor nature of their injuries.
The incident triggered an independent investigation conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police, a standard practice to assess the circumstances surrounding the crash involving the law enforcement officers. The State Police's participation was requested by the local departments involved to ensure an objective review.
