Georgia's political landscape is brimming with fresh activity as Seth Clark, a Democrat and former Macon-Bibb County Commissioner, throws his hat into the ring for the lieutenant governor race of 2026. In an announcement made via a video message, Clark laid out his vision to mitigate the cost of living for working families in Georgia and to infuse state government with what he terms a "compassion-driven approach," as per reports from FOX 5 Atlanta.
Joining a burgeoning Democratic field, Clark will be contesting against state Senator Josh McLaurin and accountant Richard N. Wright, not to mention a formidable array of Republican candidates, which includes names like state Rep. David Clark and state Senators Greg Dolezal, Steve Gooch, John F. Kennedy, among others. Clarke's prior experience as a two-term AmeriCorps member, Macon-Bibb Mayor Pro Tempore, and head of the Ocmulgee National Park and Preserve Initiative forms the bedrock of his campaign's narrative.
Economic relief and educational enhancement form the crux of Clark's platform. "Too many families are still struggling," Clark lamented. “Wages aren’t keeping up. Groceries and power bills rise every month. Health care, child care, housing and college are out of reach for too many people. That’s not the Georgia that raised me, and it’s not the Georgia we have to accept,” WGXA reported him as stating.
Moreover, his agenda also covers tax reforms, aiming for a system that benefits “We can build a tax system that works for working folks — not just billionaires and their corrupt errand boys at the State Capitol," Clark pronounced. A slew of elected officials have already pledged their support to Clark's campaign, with State Representative Tangie Herring (D- Macon) taking on the role of treasurer while State Representative Stacey Evans (D-Atlanta) will chair the campaign. Athens Mayor Kelly Girtz (D) has been named as the campaign’s secretary, highlighting the cross-state backing for Clark's bid, as noted by WGXA.
