The National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans has issued a Dense Fog Advisory that remains in effect until 8 AM CST Friday, as reported on their website. The fog, which reduces visibility to a quarter mile or less, presents challenging driving conditions across portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi.
As per the advisory, NWS warns of hazardous driving due to the low visibility. The affected areas include major cities such as New Orleans, Metairie, and Kenner in Louisiana; and Gulfport, Biloxi, and Bay St. Louis in Mississippi. Motorists are advised to slow down, use low beam headlights, and maintain an appropriate distance from the vehicle ahead during these conditions.
The NWS also provides a detailed forecast following the fog advisory. Today's weather indicates mostly cloudy skies with a high near 67 and a slight chance of showers late tonight. Over the weekend, expect showers and possible thunderstorms, with highs around 67 degrees. Sunday night's low could plummet to 27, with frost likely by Monday night.
The rapid shift from balmy thunderstorms to frost underscores the volatile nature of Gulf Coast weather, as changing conditions bring new challenges for motorists amid misty roads. The unsettled pattern is expected to give way to a clear and sunny Monday, with daytime highs reaching a brisk 42 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The rest of the week alternates between slight chances of showers and sunny conditions, with temperatures gradually warming after Tuesday's widespread frost. True to the unpredictable spirit of southern weather, the week looks to be an atmospheric rollercoaster for New Orleans and its surrounding regions.
