The new year did not kick off smoothly for one Denver metro area driver, who was slapped with a hefty speeding ticket and something more. In a recent post by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, a male driver, aged 26, found himself under arrest after barreling down E. Quincy Avenue at speeds that would make your head spin, if not for the sobering outcome.
Deputy Conta, a member of the Traffic Safety Unit, was on the lookout for speedsters when his radar caught the Honda CR-V hurtling along at a breakneck 90 mph in a 40 mph zone. The social media post from Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office stressed, "A speeding ticket is a rough way to start the new year, but going 50 mph over the speed limit is another level."
This sort of flagrant disregard for the law, and more importantly, for the safety of fellow commuters, earned the driver citations for speeding and reckless driving, on top of earning a trip to the local jail. It's a stark reminder that the law comes with teeth, particularly when public safety is at stake.
