A Denver man's chain of violent actions has culminated in a substantial prison term, according to the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado. Jason Cisneros, 34, from Denver, was sentenced to 144 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release after being convicted of using and brandishing a firearm during a crime spree in Denver in March 2025.
The series of events, outlined in the plea agreement, began when Cisneros stole a case of beer from a local convenience store on March 1, 2025. After being confronted by the store manager, he displayed a 9mm firearm and fled. His escape was short-lived due to a car malfunction, leading him to carjack a woman who was with her grandchildren at the time, authorities stated, as per the U.S. Department of Justice. In a rapid succession of criminal acts, Cisneros left behind a crashed vehicle with two adults and three children before forcefully stealing another vehicle at gunpoint.
The sentencing was handed down by United States District Judge Regina M. Rodriguez after Cisneros' apprehension in downtown Denver by law enforcement officers. His previous disregard for a state prison sentence earned him a direct route into federal custody, with Acting Special Agent in Charge, FBI Denver Marvin Massey commenting that the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force pays serious attention to such violent and repeated crimes.
In a statement obtained by the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney Peter McNeilly expressed his gratitude towards the coordinated efforts of the police force and federal prosecutors in putting an end to Cisneros' dangerous actions. "This man went on a rampage across Denver and left a trail of victims in his wake," McNeilly said. The case, denoted as number 1:25-cr-00093-RMR, was a collaborative effort between the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Denver Police Department, with Assistant United States Attorney Brian Dunn handling the prosecution.
