Afternoon commuters at the City College trolley stop in downtown San Diego were jolted yesterday when a woman was stabbed on the platform, briefly turning a routine ride into a crime scene.
The attack was reported at about 3:55 p.m. near Park Boulevard and Broadway. Police said the victim suffered wounds that were described as non-life-threatening, and transit staff, along with officers, quickly swarmed the area. A suspect was detained after a brief chase that ended a few blocks from the station.
San Diego Police Officer Anthony Carrasco told NBC 7 San Diego that the stabbing happened near Park Boulevard and Broadway and that "a female victim received non-life-threatening wounds." He also said police would maintain an increased law-enforcement presence in the area while detectives dug into what happened.
Suspect Apprehended by Transit Security
According to Carrasco, Trolley Transit Security chased the suspect for several blocks before taking the person into custody, NBC 7 San Diego reported. Officials have not released the suspect's identity or gender, and no charges have been publicly announced so far. Officers stayed on scene as investigators documented the area and spoke with witnesses.
Where It Happened
San Diego City College lists its address as 1313 Park Boulevard, which places the trolley platform within walking distance of the Broadway and Park intersection, according to the college's website. The corridor is a well-traveled slice of downtown, with a steady flow of transit riders, students and nearby businesses, the kind of spot that typically draws extra patrols after a violent incident.
What Riders Should Know
Authorities have not released any information about a possible motive or confirmed what charges, if any, the suspect will face. Investigators continue processing the scene and reviewing what led up to the stabbing. This story will be updated as San Diego police or transit officials release more details.
