A pedestrian was killed Friday evening after being hit by a truck in downtown Las Vegas, authorities said. The collision happened just before 5 p.m. near West Bonanza Road and North City Parkway. Emergency crews rushed the injured person to a hospital, where they later died, according to FOX5.
Las Vegas police said Traffic Bureau officers and fatal-detail detectives responded to process the scene. The truck driver remained at the location and impairment is not suspected. Authorities asked the public to steer clear of the intersection for several hours while investigators worked, FOX5 reported.
Police Response And A Troubled Intersection
The Las Vegas Review-Journal also covered the crash and noted that the same intersection has a history of serious pedestrian collisions, a pattern that keeps Bonanza Road on the radar for traffic-safety advocates. Local reporting cited a November 2024 collision involving a semi-truck near the same corner, as well as a July 2025 hit-and-run that left a pedestrian critically injured.
Investigators with Metro’s Traffic Bureau and fatal-detail detectives are expected to review physical evidence from the scene along with any available video as they work to piece together what led to Friday’s deadly impact, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Deadly Trend For Pedestrians In Las Vegas
State traffic data reported by KTNV show pedestrian deaths in Clark County have climbed sharply. The station noted a 47 percent jump in pedestrian fatalities from 2023 to 2024, rising from 44 to 65 deaths. Traffic experts and state officials have blamed a mix of speeding, impaired driving and road design that prioritizes vehicle flow over people on foot.
Erin Breen, director of UNLV's Road Equity Alliance Project, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that walking in Southern Nevada has long been a risky proposition. “Walking has been an issue in Southern Nevada for decades,” she said, pointing to streets built for speed and long travel distances that leave pedestrians exposed and make it harder to drive down fatality numbers.
Police say the investigation into Friday’s crash is ongoing and that more information will be released when it becomes available. Motorists were urged to avoid the area while emergency and investigative crews worked the scene, according to FOX5. Metro officers continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
