The Clark County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved a major expansion of Echo Trail Park in southwest Las Vegas, greenlighting a 58,000-square-foot community center that's expected to open in 2028. The new building will bring a gymnasium, an indoor walking track, a dance and yoga studio, multipurpose classrooms, fitness space and a demonstration kitchen to a park that's already become a neighborhood anchor for the fast-growing Enterprise and Spring Valley areas.
According to Clark County Nevada, the project is modeled after the Silverado Ranch Community Center, which opened in the southwest valley in May 2024. That facility cost $22.4 million, spans 36,900 square feet at 9855 Gilespie Street, and was the county's first new community center in nearly a decade, according to the Las Vegas Sun. Silverado Ranch introduced two amenities that had never before existed in a Clark County facility: an elevated indoor walking track and a demonstration kitchen, both built to give residents — especially seniors — a climate-controlled place to exercise and take health classes during the valley's brutal summer heat, the paper reported.
Echo Trail Park itself dates back to March 26, 2022, when the county celebrated its grand opening at 5655 South Buffalo Drive, at the corner of West Russell Road. The park initially developed just 5 acres of a 30-acre parcel, according to county records, packing in a splash pad, two playgrounds, shade shelters, a tennis court, walking trails, restrooms and open turf fields while leaving 25 acres open for exactly this kind of future buildout.
From Community Survey to Board Approval
The path to Tuesday's vote ran through months of resident input. Clark County launched an online community survey in November 2025 asking neighbors what activities, programs and floor plans they wanted to see in the new facility, according to KTNV. Preliminary plans had initially called for a 40,000-square-foot building before the design grew to the 58,000-square-foot version commissioners just approved.
County officials gave residents an early look at the site plan during an Echo Trail Park Day of Play event on April 4, drawing roughly 500 people for park cleanup efforts and a firsthand preview. At that gathering, officials revealed the new community center will sit on the southwest corner of the 30-acre property, directly west of the park's existing amenities — meaning the beloved splash pad and playgrounds already in place won't have to move.
Las Vegas-based LGA Architecture, which also designed the Silverado Ranch Community Center, is the design firm behind the Echo Trail project. The park's broader upgrades approved alongside the community center include enhanced landscaping, new pedestrian pathways and 288 new parking spaces to accommodate the expanded facility.
A District A Priority in a Booming Corridor
Echo Trail Park sits within Commission District A, represented by Commission Chairman Michael Naft, who has pushed several recent park and recreation initiatives across the southwest valley. The district covers unincorporated communities in Enterprise and Spring Valley that have seen rapid residential growth in recent years, adding pressure on the county to expand indoor recreation space to match.
The Echo Trail approval isn't an isolated move. In August, Clark County broke ground on an expansion and renovation of the nearby West Flamingo Senior Center, another investment aimed at modernizing recreational space for active older adults in the same corridor. Together, the projects point to a broader county strategy of replicating popular indoor amenities — climate-controlled tracks, demonstration kitchens, dedicated fitness studios — across multiple facilities as the southwest valley's population continues to swell.
Clark County, the 11th-largest county in the United States and roughly the size of New Jersey, currently serves about 2.4 million residents. As of 2023, the county operated 115 urban and rural parks, 26 recreation centers and 14 public pools, a footprint that officials continue to expand as neighborhoods like those surrounding Echo Trail Park keep growing. The county has not yet detailed the total budget or funding sources for the Echo Trail expansion, nor set a groundbreaking date ahead of the targeted 2028 opening.
