A treacherous tumble off the edge of Highway 193 near Texas Canyon Road resulted in a dramatic rescue operation this past Tuesday when an SUV careened off the roadway and down a steep mountainside. According to a social media post by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) - Placerville, responding units included first responders from El Dorado County Fire, CAL FIRE, Garden Valley Fire, and personnel from Growlersburg Conservation Camp.
The operation, which has been described as "challenging," saw emergency crews laboring to safely extricate the driver from the wreckage. The successful effort culminated with the individual being airlifted to Sutter Roseville for medical care. "We extend our sincere thanks to all responding agencies for their teamwork and professionalism during this incident," CHP - Placerville expressed in their public communique.
In response to the accident, CHP - Placerville also issued a safety reminder to the public. With mountain roadways being "narrow, winding, and unforgiving," they implore motorists to maintain safe speeds, remain vigilant, and to adjust their driving according to current road and weather conditions. "Your decisions behind the wheel can make the difference," reminded the CHP in their message, emphasizing the import of safe driving practices especially in less forgiving terrains.
