The City of Durham is reminding residents about the proper disposal of their holiday trees. The Environmental & Street Services team is providing guidance on preparing trees for environmentally friendly disposal.

The City of Durham, NC, announced via a social media post that the Waste Disposal & Recycling Center at 2115 E. Club Blvd. is accepting holiday tree drop-offs. Additional Saturday disposal sites are also available for residents. Free curbside collection, however, is limited to yard waste and exempt service customers. Residents are encouraged to visit the city’s website for more detailed information.

Reporters from the DeWitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy recently visited the Waste Disposal & Recycling Center, where they observed how holiday trees are processed into mulch and other environmentally beneficial materials. The upcoming coverage in the 9th Street Journal will provide information on sustainable disposal practices and highlight the importance of proper recycling for the community.
