El Paso ISD is bursting with pride as two of its students, Emiliano Ferrán Martinez Caloca and Shaheli De Silva, clinched the top spot at the district's annual Spanish Spelling Bee. The event, which took place on Thursday, January 22, at Austin High School, saw these young scholars from Wiggs Middle School and Young Women’s Academy, respectively, emerge victoriously for the third straight year in a tie, a feat that certainly calls for celebration. According to El Paso ISD News, the competition highlights academic achievement and bilingualism in a spirited contest.

Not to be overshadowed, Luna Millian of Navarrete Middle School demonstrated strong command of her linguistic skills, securing second place in what was, by all accounts, a tightly contested bee. The young competitors spelled their hearts out, each aiming to not merely advance but to solidly represent their schools. "The Spanish Spelling Bee celebrates bilingualism, literacy, and academic achievement," El Paso ISD News noted, emphasizing the significance of this challenging event conducted entirely in Spanish.

These top finishers will now prepare themselves to take on a broader stage at the Regional Spanish Spelling Bee, set for February 7 at the Starlight Event Center. It's an opportunity to not only put their individual skills to the test but also to showcase the linguistic prowess of El Paso ISD students against peers from the wider region.
