The El Paso Public Libraries (EPPL) system has been honored with the 2025 Achievement of Library Excellence Award by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association, according to a news release from the City of El Paso. This notable award has been bestowed on the EPPL for the eighth time, reflecting its sustained commitment to serving the community with distinction.
Of more than 540 public libraries in Texas, only a handful were recognized with the same accolade last year, underlining the EPPL's dedication to excellence. The award is based on several criteria, among them service to underserved populations, inclusive programming, and powerful community partnerships. In a statement obtained by the City of El Paso, El Paso Public Libraries Director Norma Martinez said, "Earning this award for the eighth time reflects the dedication of our staff and the incredible support of our community."
As chronicled on the City of El Paso, EPPL's award-worthy services span a variety of educational and cultural programs. The network of libraries in El Paso offers not only access to literature but also to essential technology, educational resources, and workforce and job readiness support that aim to bolster the city's quality of life.
EPPL's programs cater to a wide audience with initiatives such as early literacy and bilingual programs, all the while facilitating digital skills training and vibrant community events. Martinez also highlights the broader role of the libraries, stating, "Our libraries are more than places to borrow books, they are centers for learning, connection, opportunity, and lifelong growth," as per the City of El Paso.
