Embodying the ethos of determination and community, Stephanie Han, an alumna of Irvin High School in El Paso, straddles the realms of public service as a police officer and athletic prowess as a professional boxing champion. Trained in the disciplined art of martial arts within her family's gym, Han's foundation in El Paso has been pivotal in cultivating her remarkable journey from high school wrestling mats to international boxing rings, as reported by El Paso ISD.
While juggling the demands of her day job with training sessions by night, Han never wavers in her steadfast commitment. "I work during the day and train at night," Han told El Paso ISD. "It’s all about discipline, commitment, and staying consistent." It was at Irvin High where Han, also once serving as the Salutatorian of her class, became the first female wrestling state champion and a two-time state champion, enriching her narrative with the coveted titles.
As a two-time state wrestling champion, Han's scholastic period marked her formative years, forging a can-do spirit that would later inform her with the strength and resilience needed for her ascent in boxing. A defining moment came not from victory but from a loss at regionals during her senior year. That defeat stoked the fires of her determination, not dampening it. "I learned that the greatest revenge is success," Han imparted wisdom to El Paso ISD.
Stephanie Han's trailblazing endeavors took an elevated leap forward with the recent defense of her World Boxing Association lightweight title against renowned opponent Holly Holm, a testament to her athletic excellence. The El Paso Police Department's support, said by Han to have been crucial in nurturing her boxing career alongside her career in law enforcement. "I’m truly proud to be from El Paso and to be an Irvin High School graduate," Han said, cherishing her deep roots in El Paso, as revealed in her interview with El Paso ISD.
