El Paso Water is opening the floor to local voices on a matter that hits as close to home as the monthly bills we foot, the proposed water rate hike. Ratepayers are facing a potential increase in their water bills, roughly calculated to be about $9.99 per month. To discuss the specifics and implications of this financial uptick, the utility has arranged a series of community meetings where residents can learn more, ask questions, and express their concerns.
Across the city, El Pasoans will have the opportunity from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to engage with El Paso Water staff, who will be dedicated to thoroughly walking attendees through the rate proposal. Community input gathered here, according to the social media post from the City of El Paso, will be relayed to the Public Service Board (PSB). This board, wielding the final say, is slated to convene for a public hearing to deliberate and, potentially, sign off on the budget.
The PSB's decision will come to a head on January 14, at a morning public hearing scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Interested parties and the general public are invited to the EP Water Offices, on Hawkins, to the 4th Floor Board Room, where the outcomes of these talks will take shape. For those unable to attend in person, details and updates have been promised on the El Paso Water website.
