Grocery run, coffee run, same trip. A Far Northside Walmart Supercenter is getting its own Dunkin' Donuts counter, giving San Antonio shoppers a fresh excuse to linger a little longer in the aisles.
The in-store shop is planned for the Walmart at 1515 N. Loop 1604 E. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026, tied to a larger store remodel. If everything stays on schedule, the new counter would be among the earliest examples in San Antonio of a national coffee chain operating inside a Walmart.
TDLR Filing Maps The Remodel
A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation dated Jan. 15 outlines roughly 30,653 square feet of interior alterations at the Far Northside store, with an estimated construction cost of $215,000. The document lists a completion date of May 28, 2026, according to MySA.
Walmart Confirms Dunkin' Will Open Late Summer
Walmart is not being coy about the tenant. Mark Rickel, the company’s director of global communications, confirmed that a Dunkin' counter is part of the remodel and said it is timed to debut when the project wraps up.
"The Dunkin will open when the store celebrates the completion of the remodel late summer 2026," Rickel told local reporters, as reported by MySA.
Part Of A Wider 'Store Of The Future' Push
The new coffee counter is just one small piece of a much larger makeover. Walmart says it plans to build or convert more than 150 locations and remodel hundreds more as part of its nationwide "Store of the Future" program, according to Walmart.
The multiyear effort is geared toward modernized layouts, more services and added jobs related to both construction and store operations. In other words, the Dunkin' counter is a perk that arrives alongside a broader refresh of how shoppers move through and use the store.
Where Else The Setup Exists In Texas
Walmart and Dunkin' are not total strangers in Texas. Similar in-store counters are already operating in cities including Cypress, Borger and Rockport. The Loop 1604 Supercenter will join that small but growing list, according to My Neighborhood News.
The outlet reports that the counter is expected to serve Dunkin's familiar lineup of coffees, donuts, bagels and breakfast sandwiches, giving shoppers a grab and go option without adding another stop to their morning routine.
What Shoppers Should Know
Construction is slated to start in February 2026, with interior work continuing through the spring and early summer. The Dunkin' counter is expected to arrive later in the summer, in step with the full remodel unveiling.
Regulars at the Far Northside Walmart can keep an eye out for construction barriers and new signage in the months leading up to the opening, or watch for updates from Walmart as the project moves forward. For now, consider it fair warning that your future grocery trips may come with a side of cold brew.
