A tragic vehicle incident has occurred in Charlotte's Eastway Division, resulting in one fatality and two individuals sustaining life-threatening injuries. According to a statement from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), the accident happened on Sunday, around 2:38 a.m. in the 3200 block of Shamrock Dr., where a Kia Forte was discovered off the roadway with extensive damage to its front and passenger side.
Upon the arrival of CMPD officers, accompanied by the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC, it was determined that 18-year-old Anthony Pavon Santos had succumbed to his injuries on the scene, his next of kin has been notified of the heartrending loss the driver and a juvenile passenger, whose identities have yet to be disclosed, were rushed to a hospital with critical injuries; the preliminary inquiry by detectives points to excessive speed as a primary factor in the crash which saw the vehicle reported stolen lose control, veering of the road before striking a telephone pole and a tree, whether impairment played a role is still under investigation at this point in time.
The CMPD has unveiled that the Kia Forte was traveling westbound at an uncontrolled high velocity, causing the driver to lose command of the vehicle, leading to its departure from the road, the consequential impact with solid objects; meanwhile, they have not ruled out other contributing factors and continue to delve into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
