In a last-minute turn of events, Time Out Market in Boston's Fenway neighborhood, which was slated to close, will remain open thanks to a deal struck by real estate developer Samuels & Associates. Just a day before the anticipated shutdown, the prominent developer, already deeply invested in the Fenway area, has agreed to take over operations of the facility, much to the relief of local vendors and the community.
Boston 25 News reported that Samuels & Associates, which has been a key player in developing Fenway's real estate, finalized the agreement to assume operations of the 27,000-square-foot food hall, ensuring over a dozen Boston restaurateurs would not have to close their doors. The Time Out Market brand will continue under a license agreement, even though the original Time Out will no longer manages the operations.
Steve Samuels, CEO of Samuels & Associates, underscored the market's importance in a statement obtained by Boston 25 News, saying, "Time Out Market is an important neighborhood amenity and an essential part of what makes Fenway work." The community had rallied to keep the market open, recognizing its critical role as a gathering space and economic driver that leverages local culinary talent.
Moreover, Boston.com included comments from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who expressed gratitude for the swift action taken by the Fenway community and particularly Steve Samuels, suggesting that "every great city needs great food halls," and extolling the significance of Time Out Market as a vibrant part of the city's food scene.
Earlier reports, such as one from Hoodline, had painted a gloomier picture, indicating that the food hall and several resident restaurants were facing closure amidst a wave of shutdowns across Massachusetts and escalating commercial vacancies in the Fenway area. However, the intervention by Samuels & Associates has pivoted the scenario from a looming shutdown to a continuation of operations, benefitting the Fenway neighborhood and Time Out Market's vendors and their employees.
