
A welfare check on a quiet stretch of FM 876 near Waxahachie turned tragic yesterday afternoon when deputies found a woman dead and a man critically wounded from gunfire. First responders worked the rural scene as emergency crews arranged for the man to be airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Authorities said the situation was contained and stressed there was no ongoing threat to the public.
According to The Dallas Morning News, deputies were dispatched around 3:20 p.m. to the 4200 block of FM 876 for a welfare check, where they discovered both individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man was transported by CareFlite to a local hospital in critical condition, sheriff’s officials said. Investigators have not released the victims’ names, any possible motive, or how the two may be connected.
“At this time, this is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public,” Sheriff Brad Norman said in a written statement, as reported by The Dallas Morning News. Deputies stayed on scene while investigators collected evidence and canvassed the surrounding area in search of potential witnesses.
