Two iconic Detroit-based companies are combining forces to bolster workforce development and community engagement, while rolling out new co-branded products. According to CBS News Detroit, Ford Motor Company and Carhartt announced a multi-year strategic partnership that includes the introduction of a 2027 Super Duty Carhartt truck, expected to drop later this year, and the establishment of a ToolBank in Detroit.

The initiative is part of what Ford calls its Essential Economy plan, which focuses on three main areas: workforce development, community building, and supplying durable products. Jim Farley, Ford's CEO, emphasized in a CBS News Detroit interview that the partnership is about "making sure workers have the best equipment and gear that they can get." The Detroit ToolBank, a new community resource set to open its doors next month, will offer a range of tools for both trade education and community efforts.

Farley, known for his commitment to the so-called Essential Economy, had previously organized a summit to brainstorm ways to improve productivity in key industries. Linda Hubbard, Carhartt's CEO, shared with the Detroit Free Press that the partnership was crystallized following the summit, with the goal of elevating opportunities within skilled trades. As part of their collaborative effort, Ford and Carhartt are set to provide training, scholarships, and the tools necessary to inspire new generations to pursue careers in trades.

In line with this drive for promoting the skilled trades, Carhartt has pledged to provide the attire for Ford Auto Tech Scholars, a move signalling a tangible commitment to equipping the workforce of tomorrow. "Hamilton Carhartt founded our company on a simple principle: listen to hardworking people and build products that help them do their jobs safely and effectively," Hubbard said, in a statement obtained by CBS News Detroit.

Meanwhile, the much-anticipated 2027 Super Duty Carhartt truck will showcase design elements inspired by the Carhartt store in downtown Detroit, specifically, wheels reminiscent of Detroit manhole covers. While detailed specs and pricing remain undisclosed, anticipation is building for this unique collaboration. Further enhancing their partnership, Ford and Carhartt plan a co-branded line of merchandise for public sale. This spring, more details about the special edition truck and other initiatives are expected to be revealed, as reported by WXYZ.
