The Fort Worth Police Department has recently paid homage to a late member of their force by renaming the South Division Headquarters after Sgt. Billy Randolph. The new designation, "Billy Randolph South Division Headquarters," was unveiled yesterday, as reported by the City of Fort Worth. This move comes as a mark of respect for Sgt. Randolph's extensive service and impact on the force and community span three decades.
During a somber scene, while supervising the cleanup of a fiery accident on the morning of August 12, 2024, Randolph made the ultimate sacrifice. A vehicle plowed through barricades going the wrong way and struck Randolph, who was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital, unable to survive the injuries he sustained, as stated by the Fort Worth Police Department. The driver involved continued driving before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot, and was later taken into custody and charged with intoxication manslaughter.
The well-regarded veteran and officer commenced his distinctive career with the FWPD after graduating from the academy in 1995. Sgt. Randolph's colleagues describe him as a steadfast leader and mentor. He is remembered for upholding the highest standards of service within the Police Department, and his legacy is now cementarily affixed to the Southeast Fort Worth facility, as mentioned in the city's announcement.
