Lunar New Year, a holiday of great significance in several Asian countries and in Asian communities across the United States, is being welcomed with open arms by the Fort Worth Public Library in February. In an effort to immerse locals in the diverse traditions and rich heritage of this festival, seven library branches are hosting events that showcase the various ways different Asian cultures ring in the new year. According to the City of Fort Worth's announcement, the celebrations are not only a nod to the cultural mosaic within Asian communities but also an invitation to learn and engage with these cultures without leaving the city.
Here's a snapshot of the activities spread out across the city, with each library taking patrons on a journey to different corners of the globe. The Golden Triangle Library will host a 'Chūnjié in Taipei' event on February 4th at 4 p.m., inviting visitors to explore Taiwanese New Year customs. Also available to those interested in Vietnam's festivities, the Northwest Library presides over a 'Tết in Ho Chi Min City' presentation on February 7 at 3 p.m. For revelers looking to understand how the Lunar New Year is celebrated stateside, the Southwest Regional Library gives a window into 'Lunar New Year in San Francisco' on February 8 at 4 p.m.
