The city of St. Louis Park witnessed a significant moment in its civic life as four City Council members were formally sworn in to serve the community. During a ceremony held on January 5, Daniel Bashore for Ward 1, Jim Engelking for Ward 2, Sue Budd for Ward 3, and Tim Brausen for Ward 4 took the oath of office as promised to their constituents. Melissa Kennedy, the City Clerk, administered the oaths at the council's first regular meeting of the New Year.
According to the bulletin released by the City of St. Louis Park, Council members Brausen and Budd are no strangers to the council chambers, marking their return, while Bashore and Engelking are set to freshly contribute to the local governance landscape. They are slated to regularly convene on the first and third Mondays of every month at 6:15 pm, with study sessions arranged to usually take place on the second and/or fourth Mondays at 6 pm.
In a display of democratic engagement, the local electoral process saw a surge with 8,882 out of 34,545 registered voters casting their votes in the 2025 municipal election. This turnout, as highlighted by the City's release, is the highest since the year 1979, representing a notable increase in civic participation within the community.
The newly inducted council members are part of a seven-member body, including the mayor. They will together shoulder the task to effectively govern and truly serve the residents of St. Louis Park. Meetings and study sessions, unless specified otherwise, are to be held at the St. Louis Park City Hall, confirming a consistent place for community decision-making and public engagement.
