Reer, 42, from Townsend Township, admitted to involuntary manslaughter—originally charged as murder—tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse after Dean, a mother of four, vanished on July 11, 2017, with claims of being in a domestic abuse situation, as she was last seen in Collins just east of Norwalk, her family voiced their suspicions she was held against her will and didn't believe the Huron County Sheriff's initial assurances that Dean was "alive and well and staying in a domestic violence shelter"; in response to the suspicions and outcomes, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office took over the case from the local sheriff's office in 2022 at their request, a FOX 8 article detailed.
