What started as a small act of generosity outside an Upper Valley barber shop in El Paso ended with squad cars, a struggle on the sidewalk, and a video that blew up online. Footage posted by the barber shows him offering a man snacks, water, and cash, then giving him a free haircut before the encounter spirals into a confrontation and an arrest.
Video Shows Kind Gesture Before Tense Confrontation
In the clip, the barber approaches a man sitting near the shop entrance, hands him money, and offers potato chips and water. He then brings him inside for a free cut. Later, the video shows the same man at the door, knocking and shouting while the barber locks up the shop.
Moments after that, officers arrive. The video captures two of them wrestling the man to the ground outside the business. One appears to have used a stun device during the arrest, according to KTSM 9 News.
Police Confirm Arrest, Charges Filed
El Paso police said they were called to the scene shortly after 7:20 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, and that a man was arrested on charges of criminal trespass and resisting arrest. The barber, who declined to share his real name and posts under the handle “z_cutzzz,” told reporters he regularly gives free haircuts and basic supplies to people in need.
“I can’t control the outcome of every situation but just keep my head up and know that it’s all for the glory of God so I can’t lose,” he said, as reported by KTSM 9 News.
Viral Clip Fuels Debate Over Outreach And Policing
The video has bounced around social media, jumping from local timelines to national feeds and sparking debate about what happens when street outreach collides with police response. The story was picked up by national aggregator Yahoo News, which highlighted the sequence of events shown in the clip and the ensuing arrest.
Police did not release the arrested man’s name in initial reports. The barber has said he plans to keep doing his outreach work out of the shop. For now, the viral video hangs over the storefront as a reminder of how quickly a good deed can turn into a police call on a busy El Paso evening.
