Dallas rolled today with a hard slap of winter, waking up to raw north winds and temperatures stuck in the mid 20s that felt more like single digits. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. today, with wind chills briefly close to zero on exposed skin. Skies will be mostly sunny, but it will stay flat-out cold, with highs struggling to reach the freezing mark across much of the metro before a sharp warm-up arrives later in the weekend.
This Morning And Saturday
Temperatures are expected to bottom out near 19°F early Saturday, then claw into the low 30s by mid-afternoon, with north winds around 5 to 15 mph. Areas north of I-20 are most likely to remain at or below freezing for much of the day, so plan on lingering icy patches on shaded roads and bridges. Skies should gradually clear into the afternoon, but the breeze will keep it feeling several degrees colder than what the thermometer shows, so plan to dress for the wind, not the number on your phone.
Quick Warm Up Late Weekend Into Next Week
The warm-up kicks in quickly once we get past Saturday. Highs should rebound to around 53°F on Sunday, then jump into the mid 60s by Monday and Tuesday, with the warmest readings across the western side of the metro. Late Tuesday carries a small chance of scattered showers, mainly east of I-35, and heavier or more widespread rain is not expected at this time. These trends come from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Warming Centers And Safety
The City of Dallas has opened public facilities and select temporary shelters for anyone who needs to get out of the cold, including Fair Park’s Automobile Building and neighborhood recreation centers. For specific locations and hours, check the City of Dallas warming centers page. Limit outdoor time as much as possible, wear layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves, and check on elderly neighbors, children, and pets.
Commuter Notes
Roads should be mostly dry by midday, but isolated slick spots may hang on across untreated surfaces and overpasses, so give yourself extra time for morning errands and short trips. If you are traveling later in the week, expect much warmer conditions by Monday, while keeping an eye on those late Tuesday rain chances if you have outdoor plans. Officials will continue to post shelter and service updates as conditions change.
