Galt police have arrested 78-year-old Henry Balliet after a long-running investigation into allegations that he sexually abused three children, authorities said. The alleged victims are the daughters of a woman who reported the abuse, which investigators say took place over several years and in more than one jurisdiction. Balliet was taken into custody and remains jailed as prosecutors weigh their next steps, according to CBS News Sacramento.
Investigation and arrest
According to Galt police, detectives interviewed each of the three alleged victims and gathered corroborating evidence that they say established probable cause for an arrest. The case began when the children’s mother came forward with concerns, prompting what police describe as a detailed follow-up that ultimately led detectives to seek an arrest warrant for Balliet. After his arrest, Balliet was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, the downtown facility located at 651 I Street in Sacramento. The Main Jail is the county’s primary pretrial detention center and provides public information on visitation rules, inmate services and custody procedures through its website, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
Charges and legal status
Galt police say Balliet faces multiple felony counts, including lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 and sex acts with a child under 10, based on booking information released by authorities. These remain allegations that have not been tested in court, and Balliet is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Officials have not yet released additional details about formal charges or court dates, CBS Sacramento reports.
