Heads up, drivers and pedestrians around Garden of the Gods Road: Construction for safety improvements is set to pick back up come Monday, Jan. 5. This next phase targets the intersections near Northpark Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard, with a focus on enhancing safety, according to the City of Colorado Springs.
During the construction, motorists can expect to lose access to some of the eastbound lanes, but at least one lane will be stubbornly hanging on to allow traffic in each direction. The city's notification advises that travelers should be vigilant as they navigate the construction zones, where barriers and heavy equipment might slow their roll, along with the presence of workers just a foot away from the fray.
There's also a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, or the road, in this case. The project includes the installation of new traffic signals, aiming to serve as sentinels for drivers and pedestrians alike in their journeys through this stretch. Completion of these improvements is tentatively penciled in for late January 2026, so the folks frequently trekking this route can expect only a short-term hassle for a long-term benefit.
