Two separate traffic incidents on Tuesday left a man and a woman injured in the area of East Long Avenue and North Rhyne Street in Gastonia. In the first incident, a man was struck by a Norfolk Southern train near Long Avenue and Airline Avenue, outside a designated crosswalk. His injuries were not expected to be life-threatening, WCNC reported.
Later the same day, a woman was struck by a car at East Long Avenue and North Rhyne Street. Her injuries were not life-threatening, WBTV reported. The incident raises further concerns about pedestrian safety and highlights the need to review traffic management in the area.
Gastonia police have not released additional details about the car crash that injured the woman. Like the train incident, the victims’ identities were not disclosed as investigations continue and privacy is maintained.
