Residents and travelers in Houston’s Galleria area saw an unexpected fountain Sunday morning after a water main break sent water and debris skyward outside a Whataburger on Chimney Rock Road near Westheimer. FOX 26 Houston reported the incident was first noted by the city around 6 a.m., with no timeline for repairs.
The water shot several feet into the air, carrying debris and turning part of Chimney Rock Road into a makeshift river. KHOU 11 Assistant News Director Wiley Post noted during a live broadcast that the geyser included more than just water.
The break follows several water leaks reported across Houston earlier this week. Forecasters also warn that a freeze expected Monday could worsen conditions, increasing the risk of hazardous roads.
Authorities are now monitoring the situation closely, recognizing that the impending freeze might create an even more challenging scenario in the Galleria area to contain the water main break and its aftermath. Detailed updates on the efforts to repair the break and manage traffic disruptions will continue to be provided as information becomes available.
