Embracing a spirit of togetherness, the town of Gilbert is calling upon residents and neighboring communities to join hands in the upcoming Regional Unity Walk. Set for January 24, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the event aims to cultivate an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding. Gilbert municipal sources encourage participation from all walks of life - families, schools, community groups, scout troops, and churches - noting that no prior registration is necessary for attendance.
A unity themed festival will coincide with the main walking event, kicking off at the same 4:30 p.m. start time. Before the mile-long walk commences across Tempe Town Lake, the festival, which is aimed at providing some entertainment and light refreshments, promises T-shirts for participants, while supplies last. Unless they're coming to the festival, walkers are encouraged to adorn themselves in purple shirts from previous years if available.
The unity procession is scheduled to begin at 6 PM, initiating from Tempe Beach Park, guiding participants over Tempe Town Lake and then back to the starting point. In its quest to accommodate as many people as possible, ample parking has been organized at the 3rd and Ash garage, with additional spots available at proximate locations to the park situated at the intersection of Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway.
