Once the doors close, the independent, plant-forward brand will be left without any brick-and-mortar locations in the region.
The news arrived in a letter shared on the cafe's Facebook page, which read in part, "Please note that our last day will be January 31st," and urged patrons to keep an eye on the page for any changes. The announcement was reported by OnMilwaukee.
Urban Beets' website lists the Brown Deer location at 5091 W. Brown Deer Rd. and includes phone and hours for the cafe. The contact page continued to display regular hours and a local phone number, indicating the shop intended to operate in-person service through the final week, according to Urban Beets' website.
How Urban Beets Shrunk To One Outpost
The brand opened its first cafe on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in 2016, added a Wauwatosa location in 2018, and moved into Brown Deer in 2022, a timeline recapped by OnMilwaukee. The downtown MLK Drive spot closed in 2020, an event originally reported by CBS58.
The Wauwatosa cafe shut down in June 2024 after owners cited financial strain for that earlier closure, according to reporting from the Milwaukee Business Journal. At the time, they encouraged regular customers to support the Brown Deer location as the brand consolidated operations.
For neighbors and longtime regulars, the closure means losing one of the suburb's better-known plant-forward options, while staff face an uncertain transition in the coming weeks. In their public note, the owners thanked patrons for a decade of support and reiterated that any future updates would be posted on the cafe's Facebook page.
