
Yesterday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the appointment of Col. Omar A. Perea to the Aerospace and Aviation Advisory Committee, a body that plays a crucial role in shaping the state's efforts to attract aerospace and aviation industries. The governor's office confirmed that Col. Perea's term on the committee is to extend until September 1, 2027, placing him at the heart of the state's mission to boost economic development in these high-tech sectors. According to the announcement, the committee is involved in strategic planning that underscores Texas's goal of retaining and increasing job opportunities and investments.
Col. Perea brings an extensive military background to the civilian side of aerospace, serving as chief of Innovation and Prototyping for Operations Locations in El Paso and College Station. Simultaneously working as the Individual Mobilization Augmentee for the Program Executive Officer for Battle Management Command, Control, and Communications, Space Systems Command, within the United States Space Force, his experience aligns with the committee's ambitions. Prior to these roles, he served at the Los Angeles Air Force Base, California, among other significant military positions which reflects a breadth of leadership in operations and training within the Air Force and Space Force. While leading a 118-member squadron in Colorado, Perea was stationed at Schriever Space Force Base, charged with the operation and modernization of the nation's Global Position System satellite constellation.
Perea's military career began after he was commissioned from Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, back in 2002. Occupying roles such as Congressional Liaison, Strategy Plans Deputy Division Chief, and Deputy Operations Group Commander, he has been at the forefront of aerospace operations and planning for over two decades. His array of titles and responsibilities has also included being an Air Operations Center/Joint Space Operations Center Battle Watch Commander, as well as a Satellite Operations Instructor – roles that underpin his vast expertise in the sector.
