Governor Greg Abbott has announced a substantial investment in the future of Texas' workforce with a $3.5 million grant awarded to Texas State Technical College (TSTC) from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF), the Governor's Office stated. This financial boost aims to bolster TSTC's Accelerated Semiconductor Technician Training Program (ASTTP) located at the Williamson County Campus in Hutto, prepping students for in-demand semiconductor industry roles.
The TSIF grant is speculated to revamp current instructional spaces at TSTC, transforming them into a state-of-the-art training ground for semiconductor and electromechanical workforce development, a move that is closely aligned with Texas' strategic vision for economic growth and technological advancement. The ASTTP program will roll out an accelerated, modular curriculum designed to gear up technicians for semiconductor fabrication jobs within a brisk 10 weeks, focusing on positions such as equipment technicians, process technicians, and gas control system specialists; the program will also feature a wafer processing learning facility equipped with a mock cleanroom to accurately simulate industry processes, in statement obtained by gov.texas.gov.
