Gov. Greg Abbott spoke at the opening of Post Oak Ridge State Park in Lampasas, thanking Texas voters for approving the constitutional amendment that helped fund the park and future conservation efforts, according to Texas Government News. He was joined by state and local officials at the event.

“I want to thank the voters for passing the constitutional amendment that allowed not just the creation of this park, but future parks as well,” Abbott said, according to Texas Government News. The event was attended by Texas Parks and Wildlife Executive Director David Yoskowitz, TPWD Commission Chairman Paul Foster, State Sen. Charles Perry, Rep. Armando Walle, and several Texas sportsmen.

Abbott recalled his childhood as an East Texas Boy Scout and said experiences in nature helped shape his respect for the land. He emphasized that access to parks gives Texas families similar opportunities to connect with the state’s natural heritage, according to Texas Government News.

The park is funded in part by the $1 billion Centennial Parks Fund, created by Proposition 14, a constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2023 to support the development and improvement of Texas state parks. Post Oak Ridge is one of the first three properties to receive funding under the program.
