Three women from Greenville were taken into custody after a high-speed chase concluded near Zebulon in Wake County. The pursuit, which saw speeds escalating on several Raleigh roads and highways, started when a Wake County deputy attempted to pull over a Dodge Journey on Interstate 40 near Interstate 87. Authorities indicated that during the chase, one of the passengers managed to quickly become the driver as the vehicle continued its erratic journey, as reported by CBS17.
The vehicle ultimately halted along eastbound U.S. 64/264 at Shepard School Road, causing a traffic disruption that lasted until noon, with lanes reopening but still causing back-ups. The individuals apprehended, identified as Deziyah Santiago, 20, Laqueisha Everett, 34, and Tiffany Barrett, 31, have collectively 29 active criminal cases among them. Everett, already on probation due to a felony habitual larceny conviction, and Barrett, with seven pending cases, were both denied bond. As per MyFox8, the charges against the trio include felony flee to elude arrest, felony conspiracy, and various traffic violations. Furthermore, Barrett had outstanding warrants unrelated to the chase which were also served.
According to arrest warrants, the women were involved in a conspiracy to steal from retail stores including Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, and Ross, using store bags and a magnetic device to tamper with security tags. A previous case involved Barrett allegedly stealing $6,786 worth of products from an Ulta Beauty store in Apex and $1,800 from another in Garner, as stated by CBS17. The charges reflect a pattern of theft and conspiracy that have now culminated in a dramatic chase and subsequent arrest.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation reported that the incident unfolded late Friday morning, with the official stop occurring around 11:20 a.m. near mile marker 436 just beyond N. Arendell Avenue. Images from the traffic cameras showed a bottleneck as deputies worked to safely resolve the chase and process the scene. The Wake County Sheriff's Office affirmed that the incident is under ongoing investigation, as per ABC11.
