The Georgia Department of Corrections has ushered in a new era for the Metro Reentry Facility with the appointment of a new leader. Gregory Sampson, the former Warden of Macon State Prison, has been reassigned to take the helm at the Metro Reentry Facility starting January 16. This move signifies a shift in responsibility for Sampson who will now oversee around 355 inmates and a staff committed to guiding medium and minimum-security male offenders on their paths to societal reintegration.

In the announcement made by Commissioner Tyrone Oliver, which was detailed in a press release by the Georgia Department of Corrections, Sampson's past contributions were highlighted. Oliver stated, "Gregory has been a dedicated and dependable leader while upholding the GDC mission for 19 years." The commissioner expressed confidence that Sampson's extensive correctional background would translate into a success for the staff and offenders at the reentry facility.

Sampson's career with the department began in 2006 at Rutledge State Prison, where he cut his teeth as a Correctional Officer. With almost two decades of service, he garnered experience and climbed the ranks, holding positions such as Sergeant, Chief of Security, Assistant Superintendent, and eventually Superintendent in a variety of facilities, before serving as Warden at Central State Prison.

His educational background is rooted in criminal justice, with an associate degree from Florida Metropolitan University and ongoing pursuits in cybersecurity at the American Military College. His professional development reflects a dedication to leadership and discipline in the corrections realm, showcasing completion of programs like Correctional Emergency Response Training and Warden's Pre-Command.

The Metro Reentry Facility, under Sampson's stewardship, will also have him overseeing the Metro complex that includes Metro Transitional Center, Atlanta Transitional Center, and Clayton Transitional Center.
