This morning, a fire broke out at the Candlewood Suites Hotel in Macomb Township, prompting an evacuation of its guests and a rescue operation for one individual from a second-floor window. According to a report by WWJ Newsradio, Macomb Township firefighters responded to the emergency call at approximately 4:45 a.m., with smoke visibly emanating from one of the guest rooms.
Fire Chief Bob Phillips narrated the urgency of the situation, disclosing to WWJ's Charlie Langton, "Upon arrival they found a male occupant at the window screaming for help. Threw a ladder up, pulled him out and down into the ambulance." The condition of the man, who was swiftly transported to the hospital following his rescue, remains to be clarified. Meanwhile, approximately 12 hotel rooms were evacuated as firefighters worked to quickly contain the flames, aided by the hotel's fire suppression system, which had activated and managed to control the fire.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office detailed the collaborative response in a social media post, highlighting the involvement of the Shelby Township Fire Department and the Selfridge ANG Base Fire Department, who also assisted in the response efforts at Candlewood Suites located on Hall Road.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office has since initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, as stated in their post: "The Macomb Township Fire Department requested a fire investigation by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office."
