A pipe burst at the InTown Suites Extended Stay on Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro, causing a ceiling to collapse and water damage throughout the three-story building. The incident displaced many guests during a severe winter storm, according to Rutherford Source.
Flooding at a hotel damaged the electrical systems and fire alarms, making the building unsafe and causing an emergency evacuation. Sonny Loggins said, "They had kids that were outside shivering." Some guests stayed in their vehicles because of icy conditions. Loggins also said, "The fire department escorted us to the floor and allowed us to bring one box down. That was it." The Salvation Army and local emergency agencies set up shelters and helped relocate guests, as reported by WSMV.
Community organizations like the Salvation Army and the Heart of Tennessee Red Cross responded quickly to the winter storm. John Mitchell, Executive Director of the Heart of Tennessee American Red Cross, said, "Our community’s collaborative spirit was on full display," as per WGNS Radio. Utility crews worked to restore power, and TEMA planned bottled water distribution in counties with water shortages. Some InTown Suites guests, like Loggins, were waiting for refunds, and the corporate office has not responded to requests for comment.
