A Friday afternoon shift at a Keeaumoku-area convenience store turned into a gunpoint robbery when two men held a worker at bay and then took off in a gray sedan, Honolulu police said. The 32-year-old employee was not injured, and investigators are pressing anyone who saw anything to speak up.

Police release suspect descriptions

At about 12:55 p.m. on Jan. 23, two men walked into the convenience store at 1530 Makaloa Street and confronted the employee, according to the Honolulu Police Department. Witnesses described one suspect as a Polynesian male, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and 300 pounds, wearing a red T-shirt and khaki pants. The second suspect was described as a local male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 pounds, in a black sweater over a red shirt with black pants.

Witnesses told investigators the first suspect pulled out a black handgun, while the second lifted his sweater to show a handgun tucked in his waistband. Both then demanded money and other property. The Honolulu Police Department said, "The victim was not injured," and reported that the pair fled in a gray-colored sedan with unknown license plates. The investigation remains ongoing.

How to help

Local television coverage has echoed the call for tips. As reported by KITV, police asked anyone with information to call 911 or CrimeStoppers at (808) 955-8300 or visit any police station. The outlet noted the vehicle’s plates were unknown and said detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and taking detailed statements from witnesses.

Keeaumoku has seen other alerts

The Keeaumoku and Makaloa corridor has not been a stranger to armed crime reports. In a separate 2024 overnight robbery in the area, a gun was fired, Hawaii News Now reported. Business owners and nearby residents say they rely heavily on surveillance cameras and community tips to help police track suspects, and authorities continue to stress the importance of reporting suspicious activity to CrimeStoppers.
