A Chicago Fire Department ladder crew rescued a woman and a child from a burning home in the Hanson Park neighborhood early Wednesday, racing up an aerial ladder to reach them as flames tore through the building, authorities said. The fire broke out around 5 a.m. in the 2000 block of North Lorel Avenue, and both victims were taken to Stroger Hospital.
Video from ABC7 Chicago shows crews working the scene as firefighters battled visible flames while neighbors watched from nearby sidewalks. The station reported that a fire department chief said both patients were removed using the department’s ladder and transported to Stroger Hospital. No other injuries were immediately reported, the station added.
CBS Chicago reported the fire tore through a workers' cottage–style frame house on the 2000 block of North Lorel Avenue, off Gand Avenue, and that crews had to break windows and climb near the roof during the response. The cause of the blaze was under investigation Wednesday morning, the station said.
Investigation Underway
The Chicago Fire Department is investigating the origin of the blaze, with the cause still under review, CBS Chicago noted. Officials have not released further details about the patients' conditions, according to ABC7 Chicago. Authorities asked anyone with information or video from the area to contact investigators as they work to determine what happened.
