During a routine traffic stop turned chase, a K9 unit played a crucial role in apprehending an armed suspect in Harris County. The incident took place last Friday, when deputies from Constable Mark Herman’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle in the 17300 block of the North Freeway. The driver opted for the opposite of compliance and sparked a vehicle pursuit, according to a Facebook post by the Harris County Constable Precinct 4.
Fleeing from the deputies, the driver soon decided that a car was no escape and continued his attempt to vanish on foot. However, the constable deputies and especially K9 R.E. Moore, were cut out for the task, eventually detaining the suspect after a brief foot chase. Constable K9 R.E. Moore, whose sharp senses and training proved indispensable, was instrumental in tracking down the fugitive.
The suspect in question, Edward McGee, had a history of felony convictions, which only deepened the gravity of the situation. Upon his arrest, authorities found him carrying not one, but two handguns. One of these weapons, a Glock 29, was fitted with a device known as a "Glock switch," capable of converting it to fully automatic fire, which is illegal for civilian ownership, according to the Harris County Constable Precinct 4.
Following the chase and the K9's pivotal assistance, McGee didn't just face a backyard where he'd wind up; he was formally charged with Evading Arrest and Unlawful Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. The gravity of these charges was reflected in his bond, set at $50,100.00, dutifully reported by the Constable's Office on their various social media platforms and the "C4 NOW" mobile app they encourage locals to follow for updates on such incidents.
McGee remains in custody at the Harris County Jail as he awaits court proceedings, according to Harris County Constable Precinct 4. The case is being handled by the 482nd District Court and County Court 13.
